[**Back to the Drug Build Overview**](https://vestigohelp.mccreadiegroup.com/en/knowledgebase/create-and-manage-a-protocol-drug-build-in-vestigo?hsLang=en)   This article explains how to configure storage requirements, control and receiving locations, and cycle count intervals for a protocol drug build. These settings help ensure inventory is stored and received in the appropriate locations, while supporting temperature requirements, parent/child location workflows, and cycle count alerts in Vestigo. ![](https://vestigohelp.mccreadiegroup.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Sep-30-2026-01-25-52-2625-AM.png?width=660&height=206&name=image-png-Sep-30-2026-01-25-52-2625-AM.png)     ### Required permissions **ProtocolSnapshot** - Ability to view the Summary page of a Protocol (Protocol Snapshot). Required for all other protocol view permissions. **ProtocolManagement** - Protocol Management **EditProtocolDrugsOrders** - Drug management for a protocol   ### Drug Storage Requirements The type of storage requirements for this agent and is only required for full inventory and dispense tracking drugs. When selecting the temperature requirements, it is important to know the temperature setting of each inventory location as it was built in Application Administration. The Drug Storage Requirements on the drug build will impact the locations you can select in the Control Inventory Location.   ### Control Inventory Location The control location is where drug inventory is stored and is required for full or dispense-only tracking. For dispense-only drugs, the control location is where supplies are kept and shown during dispensing. This will also be displayed on the Inventory tab and on the DARF. The Control Inventory Location options are based on the facilities configured on the protocol’s Local tab. Inventory received at the control location is considered the primary inventory location, while inventory transferred or stored at another location appears as a “Satellite Record” on the DARF. **Caution** - When the Drug Storage Requirements are selected, the Control Location field is set to display the inventory locations based on that locations that have the drug storage type. If a temperature is selected and the user does not see the location they need, this means that location is not set as that temperature in App Admin \> Inventory Locations.  ###### Parent/Child Inventory Locations Some sites use a Parent/Child Location setup, with the parent as the primary control location and a child location as the receiving location. When receiving inventory, this is the location that will be defaulted in the location field on the Receive Inventory pathway for this drug build.  ![](https://vestigohelp.mccreadiegroup.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Sep-30-2026-01-34-38-5737-AM.png?width=692&height=113&name=image-png-Sep-30-2026-01-34-38-5737-AM.png) ### Edits to Control or Receiving Locations ###### Parent/Parent If a drug build is edited to change the control/receiving location, the current control location will become a Satellite location on the DARF. This may happen if inventory is moved to a different location due to space constraints.  **Tip** - Changing a control location does not impact any inventory that is currently on hand. Users will still need to record an immediate transfer to the new control location, after the drug build has been updated.   ###### Parent/Child Typically, when a drug build that utilizes parent/child locations, only the receiving area is modified. As long as the receiving location is still nested under the parent location and the parent location is considered the control location, you will maintain a single control DARF.  If the drug build is edited to change the control location, the current control location will become a Satellite location on the DARF. This may happen if inventory is moved to a different location due to space constraints.  **Tip** - Changing a control/receiving location does not impact any inventory that is currently on hand. Users will still need to record an immediate transfer to the new location, after the drug build has been updated.   ### Cycle Count Interval To improve compliance with NIH/NCI and some Sponsor’s requirements of physical inventory assessments, users will be able to assign a cycle count interval to a drug. Once the alert is turned ON in the Facility Setting, it will indicate when a cycle count on the drug is due. **Tip** - The Cycle Count Alert will not start for this drug build until inventory has been received.
