# Drug Builds: Drug Destruction, Returns, and Verification

## Learn how to configure return, destruction, sponsor return, and verification requirements to support the appropriate final disposition of protocol inventory in Vestigo.

This article explains how to configure instructions and requirements for participant returns, inventory destruction, returns to the sponsor, and transaction verification. These settings help ensure authorization numbers, witness requirements, and required verifications are completed before inventory reaches its final disposition, while controlling when returned or quarantined inventory becomes visible to monitors and read-only users.

### Required permissions

**ProtocolSnapshot** - Ability to view the Summary page of a Protocol (Protocol Snapshot). Required for all other protocol view permissions.

**ProtocolManagement** - Protocol Management

**EditProtocolDrugsOrders** - Drug management for a protocol

 

 

### Destruction Instructions

Use this field to document how drug supplies from participant returns should be managed. The instructions are displayed when recording a participant drug return.

### Destruction and Return Requirements

Drug builds can be set to require a Destruction Authorization Number or Return Shipment Number. When enabled, users must enter a Destruction or Return to Sponsor Authorization Number before completing the inventory’s final disposition.

Users can check the box for “Require Witness of Destruction” and/or “Require Witness of Return to Sponsor” which will trigger the alert on the Home Screen to display any returns that need to be witnessed in the Drug Return Alert.

### Drug Comments

This is an optional comment field that can be used to add any other additional need-to-know information about the drug.  Information in this field will display on the following reports:

- Expired or Soon to Expire Inventory
- Drugs to Reorder
- Protocol Drugs Reports

 

### Shipment Receipt Verification

This option will require receives of this drug inventory to be verified before the receive can be Completed. If enabled, an additional selection to allow Self Verification will display. If the self-verification is allowed on the drug build, you will need to define a time in minutes that will allow for self-verification. 

If the timer is set to 20 minutes, the user will need to wait 20 minutes prior to self-verifying or overriding. If the time is 0, it will allow for immediate verification.

For any drug builds where that study has the setting to require shipment verification (Local tab), there will be a validator indicating this setting must be checked in order to receive any inventory of this drug.

### Require Verification for Patient Returns and Items in Quarantine

This option allows sites to require any patient return or items in quarantine to be verified or overridden before it can be destroyed or returned to sponsor.

If **Patient Returns with Return Verification** selected, will have the return disposition pre-set.

If **Require Verification for Items in Quarantine** selected, will have the quarantine disposition pre-set.

Monitors and Read Only Users will not see any items in patient returns or quarantine until they have been verified or overridden in Vestigo.
