Competency Basics
An overview of Competency Management and the differences between Global and Protocol-Specific Competencies in Vestigo.
Overview of Competency Management
Vestigo Competency Management allows sites to document competencies, training, and in-services. It can also restrict access to protocols based on whether users have completed the required competencies.
Competency functionality, including reports, can be accessed through Protocol Management > Competency Management or from the protocol’s edit menu.

Global Competencies
Global Competencies are general competencies that can be used across multiple protocols. They are created in the Competency Library under Protocol Management > Competency Management and can then be imported into individual protocols.
Examples include:
- CITI training
- GCP training
- IRT system training
- Licensure
- Aseptic technique training
- Blinded protocol access
- Investigator’s Brochure training
After a Global Competency is imported into a protocol, the appropriate restriction levels can be applied for that protocol.
Protocol-Specific Competencies
Protocol-Specific Competencies are unique to an individual protocol and are created, managed, and completed directly within that protocol.
Examples include:
- Site Initiation Visit training
- Protocol training
- Pharmacy Manual training
- Investigator’s Brochure training
- Training on updated protocol documents
When a new document version is released, the previous competency can be inactivated and a new competency created for the current version. This helps ensure users are trained on the most current document.
Tips: Use a Global Competency when the same training or requirement applies to multiple protocols. Use a Protocol-Specific Competency when the training is unique to one protocol.
